Media Extended

Skip a Video's Intro and Outro

Set a start and end time on a media note so playback always skips the intro and outro.

Some videos pad the content with long intros, sponsor segments, or outros. You can set a start and end time on the media note itself so playback always begins and ends where you want.

This sets the time range on the media note, not on an individual embed. Every link that opens this media note will use the same range. To set a time range on a single embed instead, see Set a Time Range on a Media Clip Embed.

Prerequisites

  • A media note exists for the video. A media note is created when you add media to the media library, or automatically when you take a timestamp or screenshot without note editor opened. See Media Notes for background.

Steps

Open the metadata editor

Open the video in a player tab. Click at the top-right of the player pane and choose Edit media metadata.

The metadata editor opens. The Media Clip section is at the top.

Add to media library first

If you don't see the option, click Add to library to add the media to the library first.

Set the start time

In the Media Clip section, enter the time where the real content begins in the Start field. For example, if the intro ends at 1 minute 30 seconds, type 00:01:30.

Set the end time

Enter the time where the content ends in the End field. If the outro starts at 45:00, type 00:45:00.

If you only want to skip the intro and play through to the end, check Play to video end instead of entering an end time.

Apply the changes

Click Apply. The time range is saved to the media note's frontmatter. Next time you open this video, playback starts at your chosen time and stops at the end time.

Remove the time range

Open the metadata editor again. Click the reset button next to the Media Clip header to clear both times, then click Apply.
