Fix Low YouTube Video Quality
Lock YouTube playback to your preferred quality level so videos always start crisp.
YouTube videos sometimes start at a low resolution like 360p or 480p. You can lock playback to a higher quality so every video starts at the level you choose.
Lock YouTube quality
The quality lock requires the main daemon. If you haven't set it up yet, follow How to Set Up the Main Daemon.
- Open Media Extended settings (Settings → Community plugins → Media Extended)
- Scroll to the Host-specific section
- Set YouTube: Quality lock to your preferred level (for example, 1080p)
Every YouTube video will now start at this quality, or the closest available level below it.
Override quality for a single video
You can also change quality on the fly for any individual video.
Click the button on the player. Hover over Quality and pick the level you want. This override only lasts for the current video.
