Fix YouTube "Playback on other websites has been disabled"
Steps to resolve YouTube refusing to play an embedded video in Obsidian.
YouTube sometimes shows "Video unavailable. Playback on other websites has been disabled by the video owner" instead of playing the video. The owner has turned off embedded playback for that video, so the Media Extended player cannot load it.
Switch to the web viewer
The embedded player loads the video through YouTube's embed URL, which is what the owner has blocked. The web viewer loads the full YouTube website, where playback works normally.

The web viewer requires the Obsidian desktop app with installer version 1.11.4 or later. If your installer is older, download the latest from obsidian.md and reinstall. Learn more about installer updates.
- Open Media Extended settings (Settings > Community plugins > Media Extended)
- Scroll to the Web viewer integration section
- Change Open hosted media in... to Webviewer
- Close settings and re-open the video
